Auckland City Life

Auckland city life is pretty cool: plenty of outdoor activities for the kids, several of our good old friends live here, all the boat suppliers are represented here (so we can work our way through our list of boat maintenance jobs) and we can nip out to Waiheke or another nearby island anytime we want some time at anchor.

We enjoyed cruising the Hauraki Gulf and Waiheke over the Christmas holidays. The weather was pretty changeable but there were plenty of bays to choose from suitable for the daily changing wind directions. We visited vineyards on Waiheke, did lots of hiking and also had a few days stuck inside when the weather was just too miserable to go out.

Now we are back in Auckland and it’s been great catching up with several friends who live here. Last weekend we joined Mark and Michelle on a day trip to the West coast near Muriwai to visit Michelle’s sister. It was a great day out and the West coast is stunning. The kids had a run around, fed the baby goats and had a dip in the pool.

This week the boys signed up for the kids holiday program at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club here in Orakei. They do fun activities in the morning (paddling, hiking, building a raft) and sailing lessons in the afternoon. They’re having a ball and the parents are happy to have some childfree time and a break from teaching 😀

Beautiful Waiheke, vineyards everywhere

  1. Hi Rehuans , glad you are enjoying The Land of The Long White Cloud. Would love to catch up. Saw Bruce & Di when they visited Sydney , it was great to catch up. My son is over there sailing for the Australian Navy in a regatta. Stay well regards The Butler.
